61/366 The Witches Ball

No, I'm not talking about Harry Potter.. this is a witch's ball my sister gave me one year for my birthday.

A witch ball is a hollow sphere of plain or stained glass. Legend has it that they were hung in cottage windows in 18th century England to ward off evil spirits, negativity, witch's spells or ill fortune.  Witch's Ball actually originated among cultures where witches were considered a blessing and these witches would usually "enchant" the balls to enhance their potency against evils. It is said that the beauty of the orbs attract negative spirits and their energy inside the glass Witch Ball.

This is Fat Cat. After a much needed bath. Read: He was STINKY! He was also not too terribly enthused about being bathed. But his sister had fun with his tail since she didn't recognize it. :P

59/366 My week in review...

Early on in the week I saw somebody's smart car out in the parking lot.  These little things can scoot around pretty fast.

I was running through a park by the Swatara Creek, and there is still a lot of debris around from the autumn floods.  This tire was hung up in a tree still...and yes, the water was that much higher!!

I was in Hummelstown and once again saw two trains the two times I crossed the tracks.  I was close enough to get a good photo of this one.

59/366 - Old Man Winter

Old Man Winter is finally here!

Winter decided to show up at the end of February. I wouldn't have objected to it staying away for the rest of the season. :)

58/366: On the Road Again

I took my photo for this week on the road, too, but alas, no covered wagons for me! At least we're still having awesome (read: completely unusual, generally snowless, and relatively warm) weather!

57/366 - Birds of a Feather

Today's pictures are a collection of what we found today around our area on a drive to see the Trumpeter swans. The first picture is of a pair of Trumpeters in flight. I love seeing them on the ground but in flight they are so graceful and beautiful.

This picture is of the Snow Geese that we also get here in the valley. People can get a license to hunt these but they are strictly limited on how may they may get. You have to do a special application for them.

This sight absolutely blew our socks off. We have never seen so many eagles in one tree before. They were in a tree near a creek that is affected by the tides and it is very low tide right now. So they are waiting to see what is stranded that they can pick off and eat. This was also right along a fairly busy road. They did not seem to be bothered at all by all the cars stopping to get photos!

All these photos were taken in the Skagit Valley.

56/366 - Silently overtaken

You might need to click on this for a bigger image, but the point of it is that I've overtaken Wilko on total post count! I never thought that it would happen! :D (I did originally take a photo of it, but it didn't look good, so this is a screenshot.)

Sorry it's a bit of a cop-out but nothing's happened today or in fact all week!

55/366 Tulips

My older daughter works in a florist's shop. Sometimes, she cheers the family up by bringing some work home. :D (She gets a staff discount on whatever she buys there.)

This is an old pic of a bridge in the capitol city of my state. It has since been painted a terrible dark blue. I miss the lead paint green it used to be.

54/366 Carnival

As many of you know, the carnival - a period of public craziness before Lent - is a big thing where I live. People take the opportunity to make the sobering up of Lent worthwhile by going completely nuts for five days before it starts. Apart from dressing up, drinking a lot of beer and singing loudly in dialect, the main attractions are the parades which are being held in the individual quarters as much as in the city centre. My quarter has theirs on Shrove Tuesday.

I'm pretty sure I posted a photo from the Shrove Tuesday parade in my street last year, too, and this year, I watched it from the same location, namely my balcony. :D

I like this photo because you can see so well what the top of the float looks like, with the store of stuff to throw to the crowds and the people busy digging around in it. :D

And here's one from the beginning of the parade - the sign says that the parade is coming :D - I thought I'd add this one because of all the cute kids by the road. :D

53/366....A Moment to Relax...

Waves Upon The Shore

It's almost like you can hear the waves rolling in.

Took this because I thought it looked cool. It's the small beach at the marina. One does not do things one normally does at a beach on this beach, but one can listen to the waves and find a few moments of relaxation all the same.

52/366...Daffy-dils!

I just took this picture on the 20th, and you can see nothing is gonna stop the daffodils this year. It's been so mild this winter they'll be blooming in March

 They're still pretty!

I think dried flowers are just as stunning! :)

51/366: Urban carrots

I passed this on my way home from studying at a cafe and had to snap a picture -- I'd ride my bike more often if there were more carrot bike racks! :D

50/366 - Things in our Valley

These are some interesting things in our Valley that I thought some of you would find a bit interesting.

First we have Sakuma Bro. they have an online site that you can check out. www.sakumamarketstand.com
Ryan's mom found them on the internet and they apparently have teas that they grow and sell as well as fruits like berries and all. We totally want to stop in there during the summer this year.

Sylthian and I were discussing these cows the other day on PM. We both call these the Oreo cows since they have a black butt and a black forefront of the body but a very white middle section. The first time I saw them I thought one of the cows had some sort of a bandage about his middle. Ryan of course laughed when I said it.

I don't know the actual name for these cows but they are that way as a breed.

49/366 - That's a pint!

We went out to lunch to a micro-brewery where they brew their own beer (which happens to adhere to German purity laws). This was the first pint!

48/366 Snow Pic

We've got plenty of snow again, and are getting more. So, I think it's appropriate to post a snow photo; this one isn't recent either, but taken quite a long time ago, on a winter similar to this.

48/366 Writing

This is an old one because my phone ran down and my job situation (lack there of) prevented me from renewing my old plan, therefore, I can't get my pics off my phone.
I snapped this a couple years ago while I was waiting for my brother to get off work so we could car pool home. Late night in the mall can be creepy.

47/366 An evening in town

From a walk in town on Saturday - couldn't decide on just one of them. :D

47/366 Happy Valentines Day!

OK.. I know Valentines Day has come and gone, but I took this photo of our supper. I enjoy cooking. On the menu was French onion soup with toasted bread with melted cheese.. then homemade Chicken cordon bleu (but it had swiss cheese and bacon) with gravy, roasted potatoes and carrots, coleslaw and for desert, a flourless chocolate cake with strawberries. And some blush wine.

bon appetit!

46/366 not really trying...

These were some of the scraps from making the Rohan Man's Valentine last night. Thought it looked neat.

Since the pheasant I saw ducked beneath the fence and went back into the chicos before I could get a pic. :P

46/366....50 Brownie Points....

If you can figure out what this is....

My Babyman bought this little gadget a couple of days ago. I'm still blown away by it. It is, for lack of a better word, an electronic thingy. It works with your computer and is smaller than a bread box.

45/366 Alien life forms!!!!!

Actually, this photo is the result of me trying to take a pic of the full moon while it was still dark.  I guess the camera moved a bit, eh??

This next photo really IS an alien mutant ninja dandelion!  I found it in my very own yard in February!!!

This is just a pic of snow, because it was pretty:

44/366: Cake again

My turn to post a cake picture! A friend of mine made this to celebrate a mutual friend's birthday -- I believe it's dark chocolate cake with raspberry filling and (of course) raspberries on top. It was AMAZING. And it looked as good as it tasted.

43/366 - My entryway table!

This is a close up of the entryway table that I have as you first come into our home.

Here is an angel that I found at the thrift store with wings of very fine nylon fabric and some pretties about her. She sits so gracefully beside the Faery door that I have on the table as well. The sign on the door is reversible and says "Sorry we missed you... We're dancing in the garden. The Fairies"

The other side says" Shhhhhh... ,,, the fairies are sleeping."

Then stepping back you can see the table with the leaf design lamp and table that the fairy and the faery door sit upon.

Gee.... can you tell I love faeries??

42/366 - Coffee, Maple & Pecan Cake

Coffee, Maple & Pecan Cake

I've been wanting to make this cake for ages, ever since I saw the recipe in the cookbook. I've had the ingredients waiting, but since having been on a diet/healthy-eating kick, I've not had an excuse to make it. However, we've had people visiting this weekend, so I figured I could make it and let everyone else eat it!

This was taken just after I'd brought the cake out, so you can see that it was a success!

41/366 More Vintage Stuff

At the Ladybug Rock'n'Roll Weekend, the '50s rock and R&B festival that I attended a week ago, a collector of old electronics had put his collection of turntables, radios, amplifiers, and such, on display. At the breakfast, he acted as a DJ, playing music from old 78 rpm records on this equipment. So, a DJ's table in the late fifties may have looked like this:
